Virtual reality has been featuring as a side piece in the world’s top festivals such as the Sundance Film Festival this year, as well as some key events centring round VR itself. It has now come out that VRUK, an industry event showcasing technical and creative potential in VR, is officially the biggest VR event in the country after selling out of tickets.
VRUK, marketed at those in the industry such as filmmakers, artists, and academics, sold out all of their standard tickets, each priced at £99 GBP. Over the two days it was on, the event featured: HTC demonstrating its VR head-mounted display (HMD) Vive Pre; a 36 hour VR jam hosted by Blippar; The Mill, in collaboration with the Guardian and association with Google, showcasing their new experience 6 x 9 Solitary Confinement; discussion of the creative process behind the Buckingham Palace 360 tour with The Royal Collection’s Will Graham; Jed Ashford from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) discussing PlayStation VR; and Jane Gauntlett showcasing her 360 film, in collaboration with Visualise, In Her Shoes.
The event, brought about by Ravensbourne digital media and design college in London, in collaboration with VR marketing specialists, Virtual Umbrella, was at the college from 10th-11th February.
